7 Things You Didn’t Know About Lil Dicky

Dave Burd, known as Lil Dicky, is a Jewish comedy rapper with a show on Hulu and FXX called Dave. As Lil Dicky, he had a quick rise to fame and a personality that got fans hooked. Here’s a few things about Dave’s past and present that you might not know!

Where He’s From

Dave Burd was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was raised by his parents and went to Hebrew school as a kid. Dave has always been a class clown finding his role and playing into this role throughout his career creating his brand as the comedic Jewish rapper.

Growing Up As Dave Burd

Dave grew up in a loving home, but he did have a few strict rules from his parents that he had to follow. His parents kept him from getting in trouble in his teens with an 11 pm curfew. To ensure that Dave wasn’t drinking he had to wake up his parents when he got home and blow into their noses. His parents were very smart, they wouldn’t let him have breath mints or gum before he blew into their noses for his makeshift breathalyzer test, so he couldn’t hide the smell of alcohol.

His Past Career

Dave’s hopes and dreams growing up were not always to become a rapper. Although on Jimmy Kimmel Live Dave Burd stated, “for no real reason, I felt truly destined for stardom.” After college, Dave worked for the advertisement Goodby Silverstein & Partners working on accounts advertising for Doritos and the NBA.

How He Became A Rapper

While he was working at Goodby Silverstein & Partners, he emailed himself rapping the analytics to his team for work and it was good, but advertisement wasn’t enough for David Burd. He decided to do something creative and used his bar mitzvah money to create a music video, Ex-Boyfriend, and it went viral overnight. This video launched his rap career as Lil Dicky.

What Makes Dave Unique
Lil Dicky doesn’t try to be like every other rapper. The songs he writes are comedic and goofy just like him. In an interview with GQ he said he doesn’t use chains or anything like that as his confidence boost when he’s recording his must-have item is his neck pillow. Lil Dicky doesn’t try to be anything he isn’t, his unapologetic self is what keeps his fans wanting more.

His Personal Life

Dave has also been known for supporting a good cause. In his song and music video, “Earth”, he, along with many other musicians, raised money for the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation which funds environmental and climate projects. Lil Dicky has always been a lover not a fighter, he shared on Andrew Santino’s podcast, Whiskey Ginger, that he had never been in a fight and once even broke his wrist punching his friend in the butt. I don’t think we’ll ever see him make a celebrity appearance in the ring.

His TV Show

If you haven’t watched Dave on Hulu/FXX, you’re missing out. It’s a series that takes pieces out of Dave Burd’s life and makes a fictional version that twists them into comedy goals. Not only is it the funniest show currently on television, but it also highlights great music. This series’ stars are also Dave’s friends in real life which makes it 100% more wholesome. Those stats include Davionte Ganter, known as GaTa, and Mike, played by Andrew Santino, and many more. Trust us, you don’t want to miss out on this series!
