7 Of The Most Empowering Female Leads On TV

Women are strong, beautiful, and all-around amazing so to honor them we just had to share some of the best leads in TV that demonstrate what it means to be an empowering female.

It takes more than just a woman doing something no one ever thought she could to gain respect for herself and gender. It takes hard work, fearlessness, compassion, and so much more. That’s why these seven female TV leads are considered some of the most empowering women on TV. Here is how they demonstrate those characteristics (and more) in their own ways.

Being inspired comes easily when watching an episode of Parks and Recreation. Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) never gives up even when a task appears impossible. She constantly supports and empowers her friends and loved ones, which makes everyone want to be her best friend! Although she might be a bit naive at times, she makes a strong and ambitious leader.

Olivia Pope (Scandal)

Always on the zone, even in compromising situations, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) is one of the most powerful women in America. Pope is an overachiever, who can be a bit manipulative, but if someone tries to hurt a person she loves, she will do anything in her power to bring them down. (And yes, we love that).

Alicia Florrick (The Good Wife)

Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) beats the stereotype of what most people assume lawyers are like. She is compassionate and blends her professionalism and kindness well. She is very empathetic, which inclines her clients to trust her. Alicia works very hard to fight against everyone who doubts her, and more importantly, believes this role was gained through her husband. She never lets anyone’s expectations of her become a reality.

Cookie Lyon (Empire)

After spending 17-years in prison for drug dealing, Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) dresses in luxury clothes with vibrant colors and patterns while building a generational dynasty. She has a bit of a flair for the dramatic, but she never wavers when she has to speak her mind. The confidence is REAL.

Annalise Keating (How to Get Away with Murder)

Looking for the perfect person to clean up a mess? Then you should probably look for Annalise Keating (Viola Davis). In How to Get Away With Murder, Annalise works hard to show her true herself and live the life she has always dreamed for herself. She is very passionate about her life and career, which shows in her brilliant legal strategies. Being able to live life unapologetically is something we all strive for, and she wins at it.

Meredith Grey (Grey’s Anatomy)

Okay, but seriously, who has been through as much as Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and still kicks butt in life? Her intelligence and strength grow each time she gains more experience, and she carries it with her everywhere she goes. Plus, we can’t forget how she is a working single mom of three kids – yes, she is pretty much superwoman.

Fiona Gallagher (Shameless)

Having to drag herself and her siblings out of a broken home is not considered the easiest thing in the world. However, Fiona Gallagher (Emmy Rossum) doesn’t believe in a sob story. She is a survivor, and no matter what challenge comes her way, she will find a way to overcome every single one of them. Fiona learned to be independent at a very young age, but she never fails to care for other people (even if it does happen to be before herself more times than most). The care she has for her family is unmatched and inspiring.

A HUGE round of applause for these amazing, beautiful leads for showing us females what it truly means to be empowered!
