7 Characters We Hope To See in ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3!

The long awaited third season of the hit Disney+ show is about to hit the streamer, and we could not be more excited! Here are some Star Wars characters we hope to see make a cameo!

This is the way!

Din Djarin and Grogu are about to make their return in the latest season of The Mandalorian. It has been a little over two years since season two premiered, but we finally have a full length trailer and release date for the much anticipated season 3, and the show is premiering on March 1st!

Of course series regulars like Mando and Grogu will be returning, along with Carl Weathers’ Greef Karga and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee’s Captain Teva, but if this season is anything like the last one we are in for plenty of surprise cameos from Star Wars characters both legendary and obscure. Here are some characters we hope appear in the upcoming season.

Ahsoka Tano

This fan favorite character made her live action debut in Season 2, and she has her own spin off show coming later this year. Of course that doesn’t mean she can’t make a brief appearance to check in on Pedro Pascal’s bounty hunter/full time dad. Ahsoka’s short interactions with Grogu were a highlight of last season, and we are just absolutely dying to get more information about what she has been doing these past years, and what she plans to do in the years leading up to the sequel trilogy. Rosario Dawson kills it in the role and it’s always a pleasure to see this character no matter what form she takes.

Grand Admiral Thrawn

This one goes hand in hand with our last pick. Originally conceived for the now non-canonical novel Heir to the Empire, this character was so popular that he has been brought over to the main Star Wars canon. Last we saw of Thrawn was in the series finale to Star Wars: Rebels where he was sent to the edge of the galaxy before the events of the original trilogy. Now, thanks to Ahsoka, we know that he is in fact alive and she is actively looking for him. However, we still have so many questions. How does Ashoka know he is alive? Does he know Palpatine is still alive? Is he partly responsible for the rise of the first order? Is Ezra with him? While some of these questions are bound to be saved for the above mentioned Ashoka show, we would love some hints in Mando season 3.

Boba Fett & Fennec Shand

We lumped these two characters together because recently they have been traveling around the galaxy as a sort of package deal, and we can’t imagine seeing one without the other. We most recently saw these two in The Book of Boba Fett, where they took over what was formerly Jabba the Hutt’s crime syndicate. Both Mando and Grogu made surprise appearances in their show so it only seems fair that they would return the favor. If Din is going to be returning to Mandalore and facing some of his biggest threats yet, maybe he could use the help of some fellow bounty hunters. From the trailer we also see that Mando and Grogu will be stopping by Tatooine to see Amy Sedaris’ Peli Motto, and it would be very rude of them if they didn’t at least stop by to say hello to Boba and Fennec.

Max Rebo

This one is purely for personal reasons, but we’d really love to see a return of everyone’s favorite blue Jizz player. Max Rebo was a musician at Jabba’s palace, but more recently made a return in The Book of Boba Fett where he was seen playing at Garsa’s Sanctuary. However, in that show a bomb went off, decimating the place. While his fate has not been made completely clear, we’d love to see this little fellow alive and well, and even just a brief appearance would make us happy. Plus whenever he’s on screen we’re bound to hear some funky Jizz music and that’s always a plus.

Admiral Ackbar

No this one is not a trap, we really are wishing to see a little more of Gial Ackbar. While he sadly died in 2017’s The Last Jedi, there is still a chance for him to appear in this interquel series. There is a good chance that at least one episode this season will give us a clearer look into the rise of the new republic, and what better character to do that with than Ackbar? It is a very turbulent time in the galaxy and we can’t help but wonder how someone like Ackbar is keeping the peace. With the Rangers of the New Republic series seemingly not going ahead, season 3 of Mando seems like the best place to get some more time with our personal favorite Mon Calamari.

Battu

This one might be considered cheating since this is a planet not a character, but in Star Wars the locations really do feel like characters. What makes Battu stand out from other fan favorite planets is we’ve never actually seen it depicted on screen. Instead, Battu is the planet guests visit when they go to Galaxy’s Edge at Disney theme parks. It’s appeared in several books and comics, but never in live action or animation. Battu is a planet full of deep lore, and seeing Mando and Grogu walk around the Black Spire ruins would be so satisfying, plus it would make that next trip to Disneyland all the more cool.

Yoda

This one may seem like too big of a stretch considering Yoda died in Return of the Jedi, several years before The Mandalorian, but we know that he can appear as a force ghost, and considering that Grogu’s connection to the force is only growing, this would be one heck of a cool cameo. There is still so much about Grogu we don’t know (we still don’t even know what his species is called) and maybe this wise Jedi master can provide us with some answers. There is also a moment in the trailer where it appears we will be getting flashbacks to the Jedi Temple during the prequel era, and maybe we could see Yoda training an even younger Grogu before order 66. This is one of the few cameos that feels like it could top the Luke Skywalker reveal from last season.

No matter what, Season 3 of The Mandalorian is sure to be filled with surprises, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for us. We will be tuning in when it premieres March 1st.
