Fresh Off The Boat and Crazy Rich Asians actress Constance Wu turns 40 today! To celebrate, we are highlighting her greatest accomplishments from her career so far.
Fresh Off The Boat
Constance Wu starred in the sitcom Fresh Off The Boat. The series, which is loosely based off of Eddie Huang’s book, was Constance’s breakthrough project in 2015, and she continued with the show until 2020. E! even named her a breakout star for the 2014-2015 television season.
Crazy Rich Asians
In 2018, Constance starred as Rachel Chu in Crazy Rich Asians. Based on the novel of the same name, this movie was the first Hollywood film to have an all-Asian cast since The Joy Luck Club and grossed a total of $238 million. It was quickly loved by people from around the world, and Constance has already revealed that she will be returning to reprise her role in the sequel movies.
Award Nominations
Because of her acting in Crazy Rich Asians, Constance received numerous award nominations. She was the first Asian woman in 40 years to be nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical as well as the fourth ever female Asian nominee.
Named Top 100 Most Influential People In 2017 By Time Magazine
For her work on Fresh Off The Boat as well as her activism, Constance Wu was included in Time Magazine’s Top 100 most influential people in 2017. Not only has Constance proved herself through her acting, she has also opened doors and led the way for female Asians in Hollywood.
Her Book Making A Scene
As if her acting career wasn’t already inspiring, Constance Wu wrote and published a book in 2019 titled Making A Scene. She shares her experience with representation, sexism, and advocacy as an actress. In doing so, she shares both the positives and negatives of what it means to be working in Hollywood.
