As the Christmas holiday grows near, it’s time to start getting in the spirit. Disney has released a multitude of movies over the years, but here are 5 Christmas films to add to your watch list!
Good Luck Charlie It’s Christmas
This TV movie based on the original sitcom Good Luck Charlie, has become a holiday staple for many. Originally premiering in 2011 the movie follows the Duncan family as they set off to travel to Palm Springs for Christmas. However after Teddy (Bridgit Mendler) volunteers for a later flight to prove she can be an adult, she and her mom Amy (Leigh-Allyn Baker) get stranded after Amy insists on going with her. The movie highlights their mother-daughter relationship and how it doesn’t matter where you have Christmas as long as you’re together.
Noelle
After the passing of the current Santa Claus, his son Nick (Bill Hader) must step up and continue the Christmas tradition, but he’s struggling and close to cracking under pressure. His sister Noelle (Anna Kendrick) who is in full holiday spirit, suggests he take a break, but when he doesn’t return it’s up to her to find him and save Christmas. The movie is light-hearted, fun, and is truly about supporting your family.
Christmas…Again?
In this Groundhog’s Day-inspired movie, 12-year-old Rowena (Scarlett Estevez) finds herself reliving Christmas after wishing for a do-over. Similarly to the other movies, this film focuses on family. Ro’s parents are going through a rocky divorce, and her dad’s new girlfriend and her son have entered the scene. However, after being stuck in an endless loop of her disastrous Christmas day, Ro learns to love her blended family and what Christmas truly means.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
Inspired by the original fairytale, this movie follows Clara (Mackenzie Foy) as she is transported to the magical world of the four realms in search of the key to the present her late mother left her. It is in these four realms where she meets the Nutcracker (Jayden Fowora-Knight) who helps her on her journey. In recent years, this story has been popularized as a ballet, but Disney does a great job of bringing the world and its heightened magic to life.
The Naughty Nine
Andy Steele (Winslow Fegley) and Dulce Gutierrez (Camila Rodriguez) are best friends and are always getting in trouble. Most recently, they pulled off a heist to steal back the confiscated toys in their school. But on Christmas morning, when neither of them gets what they asked for, their friend Lewis (Anthony Joo) reveals they might be on the naughty list. After compiling a list of other kids who are on the naughty list, they gather together in an attempt to track down Santa Claus and get their presents. The movie is fun and puts emphasis on the fact you can be nice without changing who you are.
