5 Indie Movies To Watch As The Weather Gets Warmer

With warmer weather rolling in, it might be time to start watching movies to get you in the mood for beaches, picnics, and heat. These five movies completely embody the atmosphere of Spring and Summer!

Bodies Bodies Bodies

When Bodies, Bodies, Bodies was released in 2022, this movie was all the rave among audiences. Following the story of a hurricane party that goes wrong, these twenty-year olds start turning on each other one by one. With fun, bright costuming, hilarious actors, glowsticks, and weather you would only find during warmer weather this film totally understands how to emulate those hotter months. This film is jam packed with talent such as Amandla Steinberg from The Hunger Games, Rachel Stennot from Shiva Baby, and Maria Bakalova from Borat.

Spectacular Now

Based on the book by Tim Tharp, this film follows the story of two seniors, one, a troubled, partying boy and a bookish, quiet girl. Their unlikely love story was filmed in Athens, Georgia. Between the warm coloring, the atmosphere of Georgia, and the ambience of the final year of high school, this movie exudes Summer. Shaliene Woodley from The Fault In Our Stars and Miles Teller from Whiplash give excellent performances throughout the movie. From lake parties to hot nights, Spectacular Now truly lets the audience relieve that summer before college.

Palm Springs

Palm Springs was released by Hulu in 2020. This hilarious Sci-Fi comedy follows two wedding guests who are forced to relive the same day over and over again. Andy Sandberg from Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Cristina Milioti from The Wolf of Wall Street give performances that will have audiences laughing out loud. This surprisingly heartfelt movie completely embodies that warm breeze at the beach as it takes place at a destination wedding. Between the beautifully blue water and the bright sun dressing each scene in warm lighting, this film will have viewers wishing they were at the beach.

Call Me By Your Name

Call Me By Your Name, based on the book by André Aciman, takes place in Italy during the summer. The story follows Elio, played by Timothee Chalamet, and Oliver, played by Armie Hammer, as they fall in love during the few months that they spend together. The absolutely beautiful set design and locations of this film perfectly give you the feeling of the sun on your back. If viewers are looking to spend their Summer vacation abroad but don’t want to spend the extra cash, this film will bring Italy to them!

Waves

This coming of age story with a twist has everything that makes a film perfect for warm weather. Waves traces the journey of a family navigating a horrible tragedy that implicates their son. The film takes place during the end of the school year with many scenes taking place surrounded by water, driving with the windows, and at end of the year school parties. Taylor Russell from Bones and All, Kelvin Harrison Jr. from Luce, and Alexa Demie from Euphoria perform expertly throughout the film. If viewers are looking for a coming of age film that won’t let you know what’s coming next, this one needs to be on your list.
