To celebrate the re-recorded “Fearless” album, coming out soon, we are bringing you 5 times the pop star showed the world how legendary she really is.
This is not a drill. Taylor Swift dropped a new version of her song “Love Story” AND announced that her re-recorded “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” album is coming soon! The long-awaited record is almost here and we could not be more excited. In honor of her new(ish) music, here are 5 times Taylor Swift reminded us that she is, and always will be, a pop culture icon.
When she made 2 quarantine hit albums
While most of the world was fueling their TikTok addiction during quarantine, Taylor got to work and dropped not one, but two albums – 2020’s best-selling album “Folklore” and “Evermore.” Both have been nominated for several Grammys including Album Of The Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Song Of The Year.
When she won Album Of The Year at the Grammys – twice
Taylor became the first female solo artist to win two Grammys for Album Of The Year – one in 2010 for “Fearless” and another in 2016 for “1989.” When accepting her award, the star gave a powerful speech, stating:
“As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there, there will be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame. But if you just focus on the work … you will look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you that put you there. That will be the greatest moment.”
Yes, Taylor!
When she created #SquadGoals
In 2015, Taylor rocked the world with her music video for “Bad Blood,” which features her closest female friends. And from it, came the iconic hashtags #Squad and #SquadGoals. The crew frequently shared images of them together and even made guest appearances on The 1989 World Tour. However, the group has noticeably been absent from each other’s social media pages in recent years, which left fans wondering about the status of their friendships. In 2019, Taylor seemingly answered all of our questions in her essay for Elle titled “30 Things I Learned Before Turning 30.” Life lesson #20 is named “Learning the difference between lifelong friendships and situationships” and is speculated to be about her once tight-knit girl group. In it she writes:
“Something about ‘we’re in our young twenties!’ hurls people together into groups that can feel like your chosen family. And maybe they will be for the rest of your life. Or maybe they’ll just be your comrades for an important phase, but not forever. It’s sad but sometimes when you grow, you outgrow relationships. You may leave behind friendships along the way, but you’ll always keep the memories.”
It seems like there is no bad blood between anyone and while the OG #Squad may no longer be together, they will always be regarded as a pop culture staple of the 2010s.
When she could barely hold all of her awards
Taylor Swift has won countless awards over her career, and oftentimes several in one night. In 2010, Taylor won 4 out of the 8 Grammys she was nominated for, and holding them all proved to be a challenge. While posing after the show, the 21-year-old accidentally dropped one of her awards, and it was honestly iconic.
In 2013 and 2015, the singer faced a similar problem after winning 8 Billboard Music Awards.
With award season coming up, we will likely find Taylor in similar situations in the near future.
When she went to prom with a fan
In 2008, Whit Wright lived everyone’s dream and escorted the 18-year-old pop sensation to his senior prom. As part of MTV’s Once Upon A Prom, Taylor chose Wright out of 50 applicants and the pair went to the dance at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. They even wore pink in honor of his friend’s mother who was battling breast cancer.
Taylor told People magazine, “It was literally one of the best nights of my life!” She continued, “I felt so much like I was in high school again – in a good way, without any drama, without anyone being catty. It was the coolest thing!”
The singer was not able to attend her own senior prom as she was on the road for her “Fearless” tour, so we love that she was able to check this off of her high school bucket list!
We absolutely adore Taylor and are so excited for this next chapter in her music career. Until she releases the rest of her new album, you will find us listening to “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)” on repeat!
