The Prom
The Prom is a contemporary musical about down-on-their-luck Broadway stars who shake up a small Indiana town as they rally behind a teen who wants to go to the prom with her girlfriend. Into The Woods
If you are a lover of fairy tales, you’re going to want to watch this movie! This musical follows the story of a childless baker and his wife who have to find ingredients that will reverse the spell on their household, with the help of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Jack. The movie features some of our favorite actors like Emily Blunt, Chris Pine, and Anna Kendrick and can be watched on Disney+.
Les Miserables
Les Mis is a long time loved musical, and in 2012, it was turned into a movie. It follows newly released prisoner Jean Valjean, played by Hugh Jackman, who reinvents himself as a mayor and factory owner. However, years later, he is still being pursued by the officer who let him go. The movie can be streamed on Netflix.
The Sound of Music
The Sound of Music is another movie musical that has been loved by generations. However, a lot of people don’t realize that it was on Broadway before it was adapted into a movie. We are sure glad that it was, because we love the story of the Von Trapp family singers. You can stream this musical right now on Disney+.
West Side Story
The newest movie adaptation of a musical is West Side Story, which was released in theaters in 2021. The film, directed by Steven Spielberg, is a Romeo and Juliet retelling that tells the story of Tony and Maria, two young teens whose romance fuels the war between rivaling gangs in 1957 New York City. The movie can now be watched on Disney+ and HBO Max.
