3 Emily in Paris Iconic Fashion References

As Netflix’s Emily in Paris Season 4 wraps up with a hint of a new chapter in Rome, here are 3 standout fashion references from this season that will make your style game tres chic for the fall!

This season on Netflix’s Emily in Paris, Lily Collins brings the drama to the next level, both story-wise and fashion-wise. From exquisite and bold couture looks to Audrey Hepburn inspired outfits, Emily Cooper undoubtedly presents us with another fashion feast. Whether she’s turning heads on the streets of Paris or gearing up for a Roman adventure, Emily’s bold style choices keep us talking—and guessing what’s next. Also among all her styles, we’ve spotted some interesting likeness.

Red Gown

In the poster of Emily in Paris, Emily dazzles in a gorgeous gown designed by a, interesting enough, Rome-born fashion designer Roberto Capucci, known for dressing Marilyn Monroe and many more celebrities. The piece Emily’s wearing, titled ‘Nove Gonne (Nine Dresses)’, featured nine tiered circular skirts that create the look of an upside-down rose, echoing the rose garden in the background. Different from the original piece, Emily made an interesting twist by styling it with capri pants instead of a silk midi skirt, which creates a more modern and brisk look.

As a timeless piece, the red dress has been a hit on the runway and street style scene. Although red is a bold color as it might seem, it is surprisingly wearable. Here are some red items that could add a pop of color and elevate your style!

Cher Horowitz in Clueless

If you haven’t hopped on the Cher Horowitz Clueless yellow plaid suit trend from last year, this fall might be the perfect time to give it a try. Emily Cooper shows us how to channel the iconic 90s look in Emily’s way. Instead of pairing the mustard plaid jumper with a regular white blouse, the ruffled details and an oversized bow at the neck add a playful and preppy vibe to the classic look.

Audrey Hepburn

If you have noticed, Audrey Hepburn’s timeless elegance has been a key inspiration for many of Emily’s looks since season 1. Audrey Hepburn’s influence can be seen in the way Emily navigates Parisian styles with a playful yet sophisticated flair, like a colorful neckerchief and bold, oversized sunglasses. Here are three looks from season 4 that tribute to Audrey Hepburn movie outfits.

For one of Emily in Paris’s standout looks in Season 4, costume designer Harris Reed takes inspiration from Audrey Hepburn’s classic style, particularly her hat of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady. The sleek, sculpted and oversized hat really brings a touch of drama that fits perfectly within Emily’s fashion-forward world. And the look, a striking combination of bold black-and-white patterns, also pays homage to the legendary 1966 “Truman Capote’s Black and White Ball” and Babe Paley’s famous gown worn by her daughter Amanda Burden.

The costume design team also did a faithful recreation of Audrey Hepburn’s ski look as Regina Lampert in the 1963 mystery-comedy Charade. From the matching faux fur hat and top to the tight-fitting knit hood, the outfit captures Audrey Hepburn’s chic alpine style and could easily transition into the upcoming skiing season. Don’t forget the oversized sunglasses in your recreation, as they are the statement pieces of many Audrey Hepburn’s classic looks.

Roman Holiday, one of Audrey Hepburn’s most cherished films, continues to leave its mark.  And of course, Princess Ann’s timeless outfits are frequent on costume designer’s mood boards for Emily. In this look, Emily resembles a glamorous star straight out of an old Hollywood poster. The retro blouse, blue neckerchief detail, and the vintage midi skirt further enhance Emily’s classic aura. If you are planning for a trip to European villages, this look could be a great source of inspo for a classic, elegant style.
