Chappell Roan

Chappell Roan is currently in talks as one of the biggest upcoming artists. The pop singer debuted her first album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess in 2023, but it wasn’t until she joined fellow pop star Olivia Rodrigo on her Guts World Tour in 2024 that the world began to truly appreciate her music. She has broken countless records during her festival circuit including the biggest crowd in Lollapoloza history. The release of her song “Good Luck Babe” skyrocketed her stardom and the song peaked at number one on the Billboard Pop Airplay Chart. Chappell Roan is predicted to be nominated in the Big Four categories including Record of The Year, Album of the Year, Best New Artist, and Song of the Year, and it’s safe to say she has a good shot at all of them.

Cowboy Carter broke numerous chart records; not only did the album itself chart at number one on the Billboard 200 Chart, but all 23 of the eligible songs debuted on the Billboard Top 100 Chart. Beyoncé is not unfamiliar with breaking records, in fact, she was the first  Black woman to debut at number one on the Top Country Albums chart. But it seems the Grammys have evaded giving her the coveted Album of the Year award despite numerous nominations. However, that does not mean she won’t be a strong contender this year. Fans hope this will be the album that gets her the award.

Sabrina Carpenter

2024 has been the year of Sabrina Carpenter. After the release of her lead single “Espresso” which spent 14 weeks in the top 3 of the Billboard Global 200 Chart, peaking at number one. Not only is the song beloved by fans, but other music artists have praised the singer as well. “Please Please Please” was her second single and peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart after entering at number two. It’s no secret Sabrina Carpenter has been in the industry for many years as not only a singer but an actress as well. However, the album Short n’ Sweet has catapulted her into stardom. The “pop princess of our dreams” according to Taylor Swift, it’s safe to say that like Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter has the chance at the Grammys Big Four as well.

Charli XCX

The phenomenon of Brat Summer, and what Charli XCX has brought to the music industry is a sure indicator that she will join the others on this list vying for Album of the Year. The synth-pop album had immense commercial success among fans and other social circles. Viral trends to coincide with songs from the album, A-list singers as features, and a sold-out tour. Charli XCX created something enviable. While the album did not chart as high in the US as it did in the UK that doesn’t make her a strong contender for Album of the Year

Hozier

“Too Sweet” was the first time Hozier has entered the top 10 on the charts since the release of his hit single “Take Me to Church” which peaked at number two on Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for Song of the Year. The Irish singer has grown popular amongst circles that appreciate indie and folk music, with a highly successful tour for his last album, however, he lacked commercial success. That was until “Too Sweet” went number one. The song was all over the radio and went viral on TikTok. Hozier is an incredible lyricist and could be a possible contender for Record of the Year.

Kendrick Lamar

“Not Like Us” was a cultural reset. The ongoing feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake gave us one of the biggest hater anthems of the year. The single spent two consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as being the longest-running song to be number one on the Hot Rap Song chart. Kendrick also has 17 Grammy wins, so he is no stranger to being nominated, and it would be a shock if this song is not a contender for Record of the Year as well as Song of the Year.

Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish has won numerous Grammys in her career, including winning Album of the Year for her debut album, so it would not be surprising if she were to be nominated for another. Her album Hit Me Hard and Soft. The album charted three top 10 hits and gained massive popularity among fans for her songs “Lunch” and “Birds of a Feather” which could be a contender for Record of the Year making it her fifth nomination before she turns 23. She is also the second person to win the Big Four in the same year, the first being Christopher Cross

Ariana Grande

Despite all eyes being on the upcoming Wicked premiere, it should not be forgotten that Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine could be a possible contender for Album of the Year. The album topped the Billboard 200 for two weeks and garnered two number-one hits. At the time of its release, it broke the record for the most streamed album in a single day on Spotify. Ariana Grande has only won two Grammys in her career, but the massive success of Eternal Sunshine says she’s in for more.

Taylor Swift

Finally, no Grammy nomination list is complete without Taylor Swift. Her album Tortured Poets Department topped the Billboard 200 for 15 weeks, which is longer than any other album this year. If she were to be nominated this would be her fourth consecutive original album to be nominated for Album of the Year. Her collaboration with Post Malone could also get her a nomination for Song of the Year. “Fortnight” spent two weeks at number one, and this could be her eighth nod in this category. However, she has yet to win this category despite the numerous nominations.

The official Grammy nominations are set to be announced Friday, November 8, 2024.
