March isn’t just for basketball, it’s a time to celebrate and honor women! There are many women to celebrate and highlight during Women’s Month, and today we’re honoring Taraji P. Henson. Here is a list of reasons why her legacy will live on forever.
Taraji P. Henson is a true testament to perseverance. When things got tough for her, she never abandoned her dreams. She didn’t let the challenges of being a young single mother stand in her way. She became pregnant with her son while at Howard University and despite some thinking she wouldn’t finish, she proved them wrong! At 26 years old, she moved to Los Angeles with her son to pursue her dreams of becoming an actress even though people discouraged her to leave Washington D.C. Now, imagine if she would have listened to the haters, she would not have won awards from the Screen Actors Guild, Golden Globes, BET, and many more!
She offers free mental health services to those in need through her foundation. She created The Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation in honor of her father, who had mental health challenges.
She has her own show on FaceBook called, “Peace of Mind” to discuss and navigate mental health.
She started her own hair care line.
Did you know Taraji wanted to be an engineer? That explains why she was able to play the role of Katherine G. Johnson so amazingly in Hidden Figures!
Matthew A. Henson is her cousin and he discovered the North Pole.
She can sing! She showed off her skills during her performance on SNL!
She makes her own wigs!
She loves wearing colored hair!
